The Lentini Easter Bread ('ciciliu') is an Easter delicacy rooted in Sicilian tradition, particularly in the province of Syracuse.
Traditionally made with a simple leavened bread dough, today it is crafted with a biscuit-like dough enriched with colourful and cheerful decorations.
This bread is tied to festive moments and sharing, typical of the Easter period when families gather to celebrate the end of Lent.
Lentini Easter Bread is not just a sweet treat, but a symbol of rebirth and joy, filling homes with the aromas of vanilla and sugar, offering an unforgettable sensory experience.
Sift the flours and mix them with the sugar in a large bowl.
Add the butter cut into pieces, the baking powder, and the milk, mixing until you obtain a soft and elastic dough.
Wrap the dough in cling film and let it rest in the fridge for 30 minutes.
Divide the dough into 5 equal parts and form three strands to braid into a circle about 20 cm in diameter.
With a bit of dough, create a cross in the centre of the circle and place a hard-boiled egg at the end of each section.
Decorate with candied cherries and sugar sprinkles.
Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C until golden.
